It's me! Jake! I'm a writer and podcast producer whose work can be heard on Spotify’s Not Past It, NPR's Invisibilia and on FiveThirtyEight’s Politics podcast and coronavirus podcast. My debut middle grade novel, ALMOST FLYING, is a Stonewall Honor Book and Washington State Book Award Finalist, and my debut young adult novel, HOW TO EXCAVATE A HEART, is an Indie Bestseller, Indie Next pick, earned two starred reviews, and is out now from HarperTeen! My second middle grade novel, THE YEAR MY LIFE WENT DOWN THE TOILET, was named a best book of the year by the New York Public Library and NPR! I studied evolutionary biology and creative writing (not as different as you might think) at Barnard college, where, in my spare time, I co-wrote a musical about a gay demon competing in a reality TV show.

If you’re interested in having me for an event or school visit, please fill out the form in the contact section of my website. I’m currently part of Lambda Literary’s LGBTQ Writers In Schools program, so I have different presentations and workshops available. Let’s chat!

You can find my IG at @Jakewhosasillygoose, and Youtube at Jake Maia Arlow. I am no longer on Twitter as I have freed myself from that brain worm that requires me to be on there 24 hours a day. I’m also not on TikTok but my (embarrassing) backlog of videos is still there if u look hard enough. And if that's not enough for you (you sicko), you can also subscribe to my newsletter that I mostly only update when I'm traveling or having an existential crisis.
